Welcome to the new and improved shorter letter from Debbie. (If you don't think this is short you should see the long version!)
My apologies for sending this letter late, as I was hoping to catch up on old emails, but I've given up for the moment. So, here it is from Feb:
(Feb18) As you may know, I returned to work Feb 12 on the Symphony's sister, Crystal Harmony, for the first time in two years. In my short two month contract, we'll hit the Panama Canal, L.A., Hawaii, Japan, and China. Already I've feel like I've been here forever, even with all the different things to get used to.
The biggest thing to get used is that the Symphony has been home for two years, the Harmony isn't, yet.
I love my alma mater. I mentioned my concern for lack of learning opportunities to my college advisor when I visited Santa Clara. She pointed out that this was true for any job held for a long time, and that we all had to find our own challenges. I've just never been anywhere long enough. So, I'm challenging myself by learning as much about my lighting equipment as possible, all the bells and whistles. Also, I'll work on my goals and projects, not necessarily related to work.
And I'm happy here. I'm planning the immediate future around this. I'm still figuring out how to become filthy rich and get my yacht from here. From contributing to my IRA to the right deductions on my taxes, to making charitable donations (I'm working on my karma, and hoping it comes back threefold. Generous, eh?!?) Keep sending me those ideas on how I can get rich from here!
A few notes about my vacations. A long one, two months. I flew to Miami the day before I joined to visit with my friend Heather, who I met in Geneva last year. I also stayed at this terrific youth hostel in Fort Lauderdale, Floyd's Hostel and Crew House. Highly recommend it! I met some great people from around the world, as well as Americans, and many of them actually worked on yachts.
The preceding week I visited my sister Melody at Rhode Island School of Design, RISD, in Providence. We browsed some interesting shops the first day, where I had a brilliant idea to collect Magnetic Poetry for my steel walls on the ship. Haven't started yet, looking for a used magnetic poetry market. :) Melody woke me at 8am the second morning to a beautiful white mist of falling snow. For only the third time in my life I experienced falling snow. My first being at age 5 and second while skiing, I didn't have much memories for snow. Therefore I was enthralled with my first snow angel and probably my first snowball fighting lesson with her classmates.
What about California? I enjoyed several scenic drives between San Francisco and San Jose, one in a champagne colored Chrysler Seabring convertible that I rented. Had a red scarf over my head to keep my hair out of my face, felt like someone out of a thirties movie, and was properly thrilled. California is beautiful, paradise. One never really needs to go anywhere else, I could never get bored there.
I can't think of anything else for now. I think I'd better just get this letter sent out!! And I'm working on replies. Hopefully I won't get too far behind!! :))
Shorter email. What do ya think?? :)
