Driving While Texting part Duex

I mentioned a couple of months ago about the statistics of texting while driving. Just scanned a Merc article this morning: The fines in California are about to jump to around $500 for Texting while driving and $250 for hand held cell phone. Also, it would be a moving violation, which means traffic school or insurance increases. And if you cause injury or death, it's a felony, $10 big ones and 15 years. Oh, wait, that last one's Utah. The article said that the related fatalities have decreased 20% and accidents 40-50% since the law went into effect in our state. (Does anyone have actual data from studies? I want the source.)

Oh, here it is. CHP has excel spreadsheets full of statistics. Wow, the primary cause of a third of all injuries is caused by unsafe speeds. Since I'm not in as much of a hurry these days I generally stay within the speed limit or even five miles under.
