blasts from the pasts

Monday October 12

Heading out to the mother ship. It is in New York City today, so I made the trek out to see them. Fortunately school cooperated and this is the long weekend. I'll have to tell you all about it when I have more time. We'll leave the city tonight and make the long drive back to school in the evening.

Seeing the ship made me nostalgic, thinking of past good times, etc.
Another thing that came up in my Chinese readings a few weeks ago was 'what kind of things make you realize the passage of time?' My undergrad classmates noted that 'kids these days' all have their own cell phones... I thought back to my own undergrad years and remembered that I owned a PAGER. Does anyone still remember those?? Since cell phones were so expensive back then. I can't even remember how much it was. $10 a month? $15? And all my besties had code numbers, like 3515, sometimes based on their home extension, so I'd know who called-- I was 830... whoever figures out why first (and didn't already know) gets a brownie point. Then there were all those pager codes, 143, 14, 823.

Haha, holy crap that was a hundred years ago. It's nice to remember those good times, good memories, good friends. Well, the tides of life must pull on, past different milestones, and onwards. As my Chinese text written in 1922 says: 我們的日子為什麼一去不復返呢?
